Jharkhand State Branch

Indian Red Cross Society, Jharkhand State Branch was established on 30.01.2003. The meeting of the executive body was held on 17.5.2004 and 10.5.2005 under the Chairmanship of H.E.G. The proceedings were sent to all district branches.

BRANCH ACTIVITIES.

1. Under the leadership and guidance of His Excellency, the Governor-cum-President Shri Syed Sibtey Razi all the district branches collected fund for Tsunami Relief. H.E.G. Shri Syed Sibtey Razi handed over draft for over Rs. 1.54 crores to the Prime Minister for “P.M. National Relief Fund” for Tsunami Relief. The District Red Cross Branches contributed a total sum of Rs. 89,29,529/- as per the following details:-

There are 22 district branches of IRCS in the state. Meetings with the Secretaries of all the district branches of IRCS  was held through Video Conferencing on 16.9.2004 and 8.10.2004. The Jamshedpur district branch is the most active with regular activities.

Jamshedpur:

The Jamshedpur branch sent a draft of Rs. 7.50 lakh, 140 bags of rice, 75 bags of cloth and utensils to IRCS, Bihar State Branch for flood affected people. Health camps  were organized in block Hqrs. and villages. With the help of District Disability Re-habilitation Centre (D.D.R.C) camps were organized at block level for physically challenged persons and about 3000 physically challenged persons were identified. On the eve of World Red Cross Day on 8th May, 2005, 271 persons donated blood. On Blood Donors day on 14th June 2005, 71 persons donated blood. On Blood Donors day on 14th June 2005, 71 persons donated blood. On 17th May, blood donation camp was organized at Ghatsila and 53 persons donated blood in the camp. Relief camps were organized and tripoline were distributed among file and hail storm victims. Jamshedpur branch collected more than Rs. 26 lakhs for Tsunami Relief, which is highest for a district branch. Free Ambulance service is provided by Jamshedpur district branch. One hundred seventy and two hundred tripoline were distributed among fire victims of Baridih Market and Sidgora Market respectively. In Baharagora one hundred forty tripoline were distributed among hailstorm victims of Baharagora. An eye clinic was organized and 60 persons were examined between 1st to 31st May, 2005 in the Eye clinic. In the acupressure clinic, 300 persons have been treated. In homeopath clinic, 612 persons were examined and free medicines were distributed. Financial help was given to seven  persons for treatment. One hundred forty one cataract operations were conducted between 1st April to 31st May, 2005. Fifty six needy persons were given blood from the blood bank.

Palamu:

Palamu district branch provided X-ray facilities at concessional rates to 728 patients in the month of May, 2005. ECG services at concessional rate was started on 2nd October 2004 at Medninagar (Daltonganj). In the month of May, 2005 the district branch provided ECG facility at concessional rate to sixty three persons. A sum of Rs. 8320/- was also given to six patients for treatment.

Seraikela-Kharsawan:

In  Seraikela-Kharsawan district, 10 quintals of rice, 10 quintals of wheat, 1 quintal of beaten rice and 2 quintals of clothes were sent to Chennai for Tsunami Relief in addition to donation in the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Giridih:

In Giridih district Ambulance is provided to needy people on cost to cost basis. In the Red Cross building of Giridih, a new X-ray unit has been established and services are provided at concessional rate. Physio therapy camps have been organized and in the year 2004-05 1,515 persons have benefited. The district has its own blood bank and 915 persons have been benefited in the year 2004-05. In the medical clinic, 2243 persons were treated and were given free medicines. In the Red Cross Building, a Gymnasium is also running which more than 200 persons attend regularly. Blanket and clothes have also been distributed and anti-rabies vaccine made available to the poor.

Deoghar:

In Deoghar District, blood bank was inaugurated on 8.5.2004 and in the financial year 2004-05 188 unit blood has been collected. 24 hours X-ray facility is also available @ Rs. 40/- only. In addition, Rs. 12,000/- was given as medical subsidy to 5 persons.

Dhanbad:

In Dhanbad district, health camps were organized and road safety programmers have been organized. Free medicines are distributed to needy persons in the camp. In the Red Cross Building, X-ray facility and ambulance facility is available at concessional rates.

Ranchi:

In Ranchi district, IRCS in collaboration with District  Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) has started programme for Re-habilitation in which 4,982 persons wee benefited. On 8th May 2005 i.e. on World Red Cross Day, His Excellency, the Governor of Jharkhand participated in the Red Cross function organized by the district branch of IRCS, Ranchi.

Pakur:

In Pakur- cataract operation camps were organized in Maheshpur, Pakuria, Amrapara blocks. Medicinal subsidy, Anti rabies vaccine, ambulance at concessional rates are provided by the district unit.

Hazaribagh:

In Hazaribagh district, Hon’ble Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the new Red Cross Building of the district branch on 19.9.2004. A medicinal subsidy of Rs. 2000/- was given to a lady caner patient. Blood donation camps and seminars were organized.

Garhwa:

In Garhwa district, 314 tri-cycle, 7 wheel chair, 106 pair of Vaishakhi, 47 sticks and 32 hearing aid were made available to needy persons. A sum of Rs. 2,100/- was made available to Shir Ravi Kumar and Shri Sanjay Gupta for their “Adventurous bicycle expedition throughout India”. A sum of Rs. 5000/- was given as financial help to a newspaper hawker for treatment.

Lohardaga:

Medical camps were organized for Lohardaga branch at different places of the district. A sum of Rs. 2000/- was given to the dependents of victims of 23rd December 2004 truct accident.
Most of the districts are now active in their activities at district level and they have been requested for membership drive.
